5 Router tips to have uninterrupted Wi-Fi during work from home

Work from home became the only way for the employees to provide their duties because of this pandemic situation. And the Wi-Fi network plays a crucial role in getting the work done. The quality of the Wi-Fi network implies the quality of the office work. To avoid weak networks at the meetings and other important work, it is essential to have a proper network connection. To have an uninterrupted connection router should be in good condition. It should be placed correctly so that it generates a quality Wi-Fi connection for continuous work.    Nowadays, having an uninterrupted WiFi connection for your home router seems difficult. People living in congested areas sometimes have the option to choose only one WiFi channel, resulting in network disconnecting, congestion, connection failures, and slow network speed. Configuring your router is also an important step that you shouldn’t overlook. Head over here to learn about the ways in which you can set up your router. We have login guides and IP Address username, password, and login guides for all routers and networking devices. Do pay us a visit.   Here are a few tips that help you to get an uninterrupted connection during work from home:
  1. Update your router’s firmware:

Many routers come up with apps to facilitate the user easily. Updating the current router app helps get a much more quality connection and results in an uninterrupted Wi-Fi connection. Whenever an update comes, make sure you update the app. It improves the performance of your Wi-Fi.   The latest models of routers have the built-in function of automatically updating its firmware, but if the router you have doesn’t have this function, it’s a good practice to check for updates to firmware. Updating the latest firmware increases and gives you a faster internet connection and makes it safer with the latest patches.
  1. With an ethernet cable, connect to your router your computer.
  2. From the router companies’ website, download the latest firmware update
  3. Go to your router’s web management page and update your router with the latest firmware update
The next time you reboot your router, you should notice an increase in internet speed.
  1. Keep your router in an open space:

Make sure the router is placed in a free area where there are no things around which are too much to have a place for your router. The router should be set in an open space so that the signals are free to give a connection to your connected devices. It should not be compressed, among other things. It should have a free space to place the wires.
  1. Unplug the router if it is heated up:

If it is heated up because of continuous work, unplug it for some time to cool down. Heat reduces the quality of the connection. If your router needs to cool down, switch off the network, and once it is cooled down, you can restart it. Lesser connections, the router gives a quality network and high-speed data.
  1. Setting the frequency or channel of the router:

Changing the frequency or channel will increase the speed. If you don't know how often your router transmits Internet signals, open the router administration settings through the official application or the router companies' website. There you can check if your router runs 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz frequency. If it is on 2.4 GHz and an option for 5 GHz is available, switching to it will show immediate improvement.    Otherwise, you can change the channel of your router. You can also check which channel your router is on. Each frequency has multiple channels, and some channels are used less than others. Using channels less used will improve your network speed as it faces less network traffic.
  • Comparing 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency WiFi Channels:-

5GHz has a higher network speed which can help in highly congested areas. But the rate of this is low at penetrating objects and walls. Noise is also high, which is a disadvantage when compared to 2.4GHz.   On the other hand, 2.4GHz is very good for covering large areas. Noise is also less when compared to 5GHz. But in more congested areas, many people will share the network, leading to more traffic that will result in network connection failures and network disconnection. The network speed will be slow, which is not effective for users. This is the major problem for people living in apartments, so in this case, they have to go for WiFi channels with a 5GHz frequency band. Reading the diagnostics of a particular WiFi channel plays a major role in identifying the strength of currently using the WiFi channel. In this, RSSI plays a major role. RSSI means Received Signal Strength Intensity. RSSI should be high so that users can get a good network connection. On the other hand, Noise itself is also a major drawback in selecting any WiFi channel. Noise should be below, which will be the best advantage for users.   You can change your channel by:
  • Opening a browser and pasting your router's IP address into the address bar
  • Login by entering your router username and password
  • Go to the wireless settings and change your router channel

  1. Place your router in the nearest distance of your workplace:

Try to place your router at the closest distance and keep it away from metal objects as they absorb signals from the router. To avoid an unstable connection, correctly place your router as per the correct placement as per the requirements. Setup the connection in the right way. Signals of the Wi-Fi network are strong when it is near to the connected device. So less the distance, more the connection.    The location of the router matters in two manners:
  • The signal the router gets: If your router is at such a location at your house that it can't acquire enough network or any natural barriers like being surrounded by walls or kept in a closed-off space, it won't be able to give out as much. So, try changing the router's location to an area that has better coverage or fewer barriers.
The signal your devices get: If you have your router in a different room and you are facing decreased speed in other rooms, shift the router to such a place where it can give out enough network in every room. Otherwise, you can invest in a router Extender or a Repeater. Extenders connect to your router and give off a new WIFI signal/ network. In contrast, repeaters connect wirelessly and rebroadcast your original signal.
